Best Online Degrees

It is a widely accepted fact that some college degrees will provide better earning potential for college graduates. But which college majors are paying off best for college graduates? We gathered data from Payscale and cross-referenced it with the majors listed above to see which programs provided the best earnings potential. Check out the interactive chart to the right to see where your program stands.

The best college degrees in terms of entry level salary were physician assistant, computer engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, and electrical engineering. Physician assistant had a significantly higher entry level salary of $91,100 – this makes sense because to become a physician assistant you must attend additional schooling after completing your undergraduate degree.

The best college degrees in terms of mid-career pay were chemical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and aerospace engineering. As you can see, it pays to be a STEM major. Companies are paying big time money to students who have an engineering degree as it shows they have technical skills and the ability to think and problem solve.

Some of the college degrees with lower mid-career pay included music, criminal justice, graphic design, nutrition, and education. While these may be considered “low-income” majors, they still bring in around $63,000 per year. These majors may not be the highest paying but they are rewarding. Sometimes it is not about the money.

Another benefit online college programs offer comes from the financial side of things. Students can save tons of money when earning an online degree. Students will not have to pay room and board fees when taking classes online – this alone could cut costs in half at some schools. Another cost saver could come from students not having to live off campus and pay for other miscellaneous fees like groceries and gas. If students can live at home for a couple years while taking online classes, they can save a ton of money.

Some students choose to take online colleges classes because they want to advance their careers or focus on a hobby. This is especially true for those working towards their online masters degrees.
